Integrating DWG IFilter 2007 with Content Indexer

Note: At current time, the DWG IFilter 2007 implementation and the old CI (Content Indexer with and CIDAEMON) do not fully integrate. You may experience some errors when indexing some DWG files; usually the system will retry those files later. We are currently investigating the problem.

CI is used by itself, and additionally it is used in different Microsoft products. Microsoft Index Server is one of those. Some third party Search/Indexing applications rely on Microsoft Index Server and/or Content Indexer. This section focusses on desktop operation as the third party tools usually work with desktop search/indexing. With server applications, we expect newer technology to be used.

To register DWG IFilter with CI, you need to run the installer with default settings. You may need to restart the indexer to allow it to pick up the new setting.

Errors appear in normal operation
As we currently have not resolved some issues with CI operation with DWG IFilter 2007, errors may appear. Expect to see a number of errors in the application log. However I expect the scanned files should be added to the index.

Not picking up the DWG IFilter
The system uses the IFilter which was installed the latest. If you install AutoCAD after DWG IFIlter is installed; your system will try to use the AutoCAD version (by the way: which could/should also work). To re-register our version you open the Configurator tool again (with a administrator account) and unselect the box at register with windows.
Please tell us what your results are for each step (preferrably with scheenshots) so we can add this to our online FAQ/support pages later.

Suggestion to use WDS 3.0
Where applicable, try to switch to use WDS 3.0.

Disable Content Indexer
If you want the Content Indexer to stop indexing your files, you need to disable it. On most desktops and servers (up to Windows XP and windows server 2003) this is installed and enabled by default. So if you have your indexing arranged with SharePoint, SQL or WDS as your search/indexer you may want to disable Indexing Services.
To disable: "sett the Indexing Service as a disabled or manual start service in "Services" in the Control Panel (WinNT4) / Administrative Tools (Win2000/XP)."
